In normal conditions the domes would gradually deflate over a period of approx. 10 minutes if the power is turned off.
The Indoor Courts are not a permanent structure – both ‘Domes’ being held up by air pressure maintained by an electrical powered Inflation unit. Each dome has a backup diesel generator which kicks in automatically in the event of a problem with the main unit.
Each Dome has emergency doors and notices showing where to meet / best route away from the dome (squads/groups). The doors will self-close on strong springs; please note that there will be a rush of air escape when the door is opened.
Risks:
- High Winds: in the event of high winds, the domes are designed to move/be flexible like all high structures. We close them to play when the wind exceeds our safety threshold (it’s also difficult to enjoy your tennis in any event when the dome is moving about).
- The Backup generator fails to kick in when we have a mains failure. In this situation with no power and in high winds, the domes will become unstable and deflate within minutes.
Alarms:
In the event of low air pressure or fire/electrical fault, 3 things will happen:
1. An audible alarm will sound
2. A flashing orange light at the main door will activate
3. The backup diesel generator will start (it’s noisy so you’ll hear it)
Fire:
Clay dome: In the event of a fire, please break the glass on the RED fire alarm box situated by each emergency door, it will set off an alarm and red flashing light
Evacuation Procedure
1. In the event of ANY of the above alarms occur, you MUST leave the indoor courts immediately
2. Use the main entrance to enter/exit unless they are blocked in, in which case use the nearest emergency exit door.
DO NOT use emergency exits, these should only be used if the main entrance is blocked.
